About me
I've worked as an engineer for over 20 years. I'm currently the VP of Software Engineering for Advanced Advertising at Paramount. Even though I've often been called a "manager" or a "lead" many times, I think of myself as more of a player-coach. I believe in leading from the trenches and that's how I've always done my best work.
Over my career I've worked on a lot of different projects in a lot of different companies. Everything from front-end UI, to large-scale data pipelines, to infrastructure. I've worked with a lot of different technologies. I still say Elixir is my favourite programming language, but I don't get to use it much other than in my personal projects.
I love Neovim and Tmux. I think keyboard navigation is the shit, and I don't understand why anyone wouldn't do it. I really appreciate working with people who understand their tools, how those tools work, and take pride in their craft. I believe in simple straight-forward solutions over clever terse code. Code is written for other humans, not computers.
These days I live in Toronto. I still love playing basketball. I was once a touring musician, even though I don't play as much as I used to. But, I still love music. Especially arguing about it.
Since no one asked, I have a degree in aerospace engineering but I've never worked in aerospace. If I'd known SpaceX was going to be a thing, I probably would have tried harder.
